Indian Coast Guard rescues six fishermen after distress call off Mangaluru

Six fishermen were rescued off the coast of Mangaluru by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on Monday evening. The coast guard was responding to a distress call sent out by an Indian Fishing Boat (IFB) Manju Matha.

ICG Ship Sachet intercepted a distress call from the fishing boat at 4 pm on June 29. The fishing boat was located 33 nautical miles off the Suratkal coast and reported severe flooding and hull damage due to rough sea conditions, endangering the lives of all six crew members.

How was the operation conducted?

The ICG immediately diverted the ship to assist the distressed vessel and reached it within 90 minutes. The rescue operation was conducted in extremely challenging weather conditions, with rough seas, strong winds, poor visibility and fading daylight making the mission more complex.

Equipped with advanced rescue technology and guided by determination, the team used remote-operated lifebuoys designed for adverse sea conditions to safely reach and recover the stranded fishermen.

By 6 pm, the coordinated efforts of the skilled personnel ensured the safe rescue of all six crew members, with no injuries reported. Following the successful operation, ICGS Sachet is proceeding to New Mangalore for the safe disembarkation of the rescued crew and completion of further formalities.
