India handled global crisis with great responsibility: PM Modi lauds nation for following his wartime appeal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday lauded Indian nationals for taking on the responsibility during a recent global crisis. Addressing the 135th episode of Mann Ki Baat, the prime minister said that the citizens stood together and acted in the national interest by listening to his appeal to avoid buying gold, limit foreign travel, and adopt practices such as carpooling and greater use of public transport.

PM Modi expressed gratitude to citizens for their cooperation and said their collective efforts reflected a deep sense of responsibility.“The people of India handled this global crisis with great responsibility," PM Modi said during the broadcast.

The prime minister recalled the appeal he made during the war and noted that Indians responded positively to the request. “During the war, I had appealed to the people of the country to avoid buying gold and travelling abroad. I am grateful to the citizens for listening to my appeal and acting upon it," he said.

He went on to highlight the examples of behavioural changes adopted by people, saying many voluntarily chose to reduce the burden on resources by sharing transport and making greater use of public transit. “People have also shared their experiences of carpooling. Those travelling on the same route have started carpooling, while many are also using the metro and buses," PM Modi said.

About C295 project

During his Sunday address, PM Modi also spoke about India’s expanding aerospace manufacturing capabilities, citing the Made-in-India C295 aircraft as an example of the country’s progress in the sector.

“The Made in India C295 aircraft demonstrates India’s growing strength in the aerospace sector. It has also empowered MSMEs by creating opportunities across the aerospace manufacturing ecosystem, further strengthening the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat," he said.

The prime minister maintained that the aircraft project has strengthened India’s aerospace ecosystem while creating fresh opportunities for micro, small and medium enterprises associated with the manufacturing supply chain. He went on to state that the initiative reflects the country’s growing self-reliance in high-technology sectors.

Overall, the prime minister said that these efforts showcased the willingness of people to work collectively for the larger national interest during the global crisis.
