Implement UN obligations against corruption: Anna to PM

Anna Hazare has written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, demanding the implementation of the October 2003 United Nations Convention Against Corruption to which India is a signatory.

[/caption]The social activist has said that even after nine years of India signing the convention, the ground situation (regarding corruption) remains unchanged as no action has been taken.“It is common knowledge that corruption is much like a plague which infects democracy, judiciary and day-to-day functioning and in the longer run mars the functioning of the government,” wrote Hazare, who has been spearheading the Lokpal movement.Hazare has also demanded action based on the findings of the 1993 Vohra Committee report which exposed the nexus between criminals, politicians and bureaucrats in India. The report, according to Hazare, contained several observations made by official agencies on the criminal network which was virtually running a parallel government.Critisising the government for its inaction to tackle with graft, Hazare said, “It is possible that due to your busy schedule you may have forgotten the details of the convention and the findings of the report.”Read the full text of Anna's letter below:Anna Hazare Letter to PM2
