'Found out about her through videos': Father of Ujjain rape survivor

The 12-year-old girl who was seen wandering on the streets of Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain after she was allegedly raped has sent shockwaves across the nation as her cries for help were left unheard. The survivor's father said that her family found out about the case after a relative showed them a video of her walking on the streets.According to a report by India Today, the father said that the minor had left the house to take an exam and had been missing since 24 September. The survivor hails from Madhya Pradesh's Satna district.The girl, who is currently undergoing treatment, studies in Class 8 and walks to her school alone every day.Girl missing since 24 SeptThe father said that on September 24, the girl left her house for school as usual but after she failed to return home, the family filed a missing person's report the next day.He added that the family could only know about their daughter's plight after her uncle showed them a video of her roaming the streets of Ujjain.The main accused, Bharat Soni, an auto-rickshaw driver, has been arrested for allegedly raping the girl.'Has injured the conscience of MP'The man, accused of raping and brutalising a minor girl in Ujjain, has “injured the conscience of Madhya Pradesh,” said Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, assuring that his government will ensure stringent punishment.“The accused was caught and he also suffered injuries in the process. I was following the investigation of the case every hour. Such persons have no place in society. He has injured the conscience of Madhya Pradesh,” Chouhan said while speaking to reporters after immersing the Lord Ganesh idol installed at his official residence during the Ganesh festival.“The victim is the daughter of Madhya Pradesh. We will take care of her in every way. She is my daughter, as well as the state’s daughter and we will ensure that the accused gets stringent punishment,” the chief minister said.
