Dozen booked in Kanpur after video showing boy stripped and thrashed for stealing vegetables goes viral

Kanpur: A video of a boy, who was stripped with his hands tied behind and thrashed for allegedly stealing vegetables, went viral prompting the police to lodge an FIR against a dozen people in Sachendi area, police said on Monday.Two persons whose identities were established with the help of the video were detained on Sunday for their alleged roles, said Superintendent of Police (Kanpur Outer) Ashtbhuja P Singh.Interrogation is being done to ascertain their roles, Singh said, adding that the detained persons would be sent to jail if their roles were established in the crime.Singh told PTI that a video went viral in which a boy was allegedly stripped, his hands tied with a rope from behind and brutally thrashed for stealing a small quantity of vegetables three days ago.Taking suo-motu cognisance, Chakarpur police post in-charge Ashok Kumar had registered the FIR with Sachendi police against a dozen persons under sections of the IPC.The boy's identity has not been established so far, police said.
