Delhi University to redraft guidelines for ad-hoc appointments

New Delhi: Following protests from teachers against new rules announced by Delhi University for ad-hoc appointments, the varsity has now decided to redraft the guidelines.[caption id="attachment_681894" align="alignleft" width="380"] Ad-hoc appointments of teachers in DU to continue as before for now . AFP [/caption]The varsity had sent a communication to all colleges and departments last week informing them about a centralisedonline application process for ad-hoc appointments.Colleges were further asked to prepare a panel of eligible candidates from the applications and schedule theinterviews.However, so far colleges and departments used to independently conduct the recruitments of ad-hocs and thevarsity had no interference in it. The letter irked the Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) members who termed it to be a violation ofuniversity norms as the new rules were not placed before the Executive Council for its approval.Following protests from the teachers, the university authorities decided to redraft the guidelines and instructedthe colleges to continue with previous norms till the process was over."The deliberations on streamlining the process of ad-hoc appointments are in process and will be finalised after due process of consultation and discussion before the statutory bodies of the university," a new letter sent to colleges read. "Until the revised guidelines come into effect following the due process, you are requested to conduct the ad-hocappointments as per the guidelines existing since 2007," it added. PTI
