Delhi: Two college students killed, three injured in speeding, drunk driving incident at Mukherjee Nagar

Two college students were killed and three others were injured on Sunday night in Delhi after they were involved in an accident due to speeding and drunken driving, according to several media reports.[caption id="attachment_4372781" align="alignleft" width="380"] File image of Delhi police. Reuters[/caption]India Today reported the accident occurred at the T-point of Hudson lines in Mukherjee Nagar. The report added that five friends — three girls and two boys — were returning from a festival at Amity University in Noida when the accident occurred.DNA reported that the incident took place around 2.45 am and that the vehicle was travelling at such speed that it overturned and slid down the road for a few metres. The report added that the two deceased were identified as Sidhartha (20), a student of Maharaja Surajmal Shiksha Sansthan and Ritesh Dahiya (21) from Venkateshwara College.The injured were identified as Diksha Dadu, who was driving the vehicle, Joshita Mohanty from Mumbai and Rashi Sharma from Meerut, all 1st year LLB students at Amity University, Noida.An investigating officer told Hindustan Times the damage to the car and objects it collided with indicates that the vehicle was being driven at a speed in excess of 100 kilometres per hour. The officer added that alcohol bottles and plastic disposable cups were found in the wreckage. Police said the car even brought down a traffic signal on another road divider.The families of the students declined to comment, Hindustan Times reported. According to India Today, the driver, Diksha was booked under Section 337 (endangering life and personal safety of others) and Section 304 (a) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code. All five students were admitted to the hospital by locals, where doctors declared Ritesh and Sidharth dead. The others are being treated for their injuries.With inputs from agencies
