The Delhi Police Special Cell on Saturday arrested nine men allegedly linked to Pakistan's intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), and fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim for allegedly planning attacks in Delhi and Mumbai.

According to a News18 report, the accused are residents of Delhi, Mumbai and Punjab, while some of them are foreign nationals. A large quantity of weapons and ammunition was recovered during the operation.

Officials said that the group was allegedly tasked with carrying out attacks on vital installations and security personnel in different parts of the country. The arrests came after the module had been under surveillance for an extended period, the report said.

The Special Cell conducted the operation following intelligence inputs and monitoring of the suspects' activities. Investigators believe the group was part of a larger network with links to cross-border terror and organised crime elements.

Police said that the recovery of arms and ammunition has helped avert potential attacks and provided important leads regarding the network's operations.

Investigators are now examining the suspects' communication records, financial transactions and travel history to establish the full extent of the network and identify any additional operatives associated with the module.

Authorities are also probing the source of the recovered weapons and ammunition, as well as the group's alleged links with handlers based outside India.

Officials described the arrests as a significant breakthrough in efforts to dismantle terror and organised crime networks operating with support from across the border.

Further investigation is underway, and security agencies are working to uncover the broader conspiracy and any possible plans that may have been in the final stages of execution, police said.

Delhi on high alert

Security has been tightened across Delhi following intelligence inputs warning of a possible terror threat. According to an NDTV report, agencies had earlier received alerts about potential attacks on key installations and crowded locations in central Delhi using suicide bombers, vehicle-borne IEDs, shootings and coordinated assaults.

All district units have been instructed to remain vigilant and maintain close coordination with intelligence and paramilitary agencies. The heightened alert follows last year's vehicle-borne IED blast near Red Fort that killed 15 people and injured several others.
