Delhi: 'Khap panchayat' bans tenants from northeast in Munirka

AP[/caption]Reports of a ragtag bunch of landlords and others in the Munirka area of New Delhi allegedly ordering landlords to evict all tenants who belong to the North Eastern states led to an outcry among members of the communities hailing from the region.Activist Binalakshmi Nepram, Ashoka fellow and founder of the Manipur Women Gun Survivors Network, tweeted that the community members had approached police. Reportedly, they also tried reaching the members of the so-called 'Khap Panchayat of Munirka' which allegedly met on Sunday where the decision to evict those from the north east was taken.In a series of tweets, Nepram detailed the names of those who she referred to as the Khap Panchayat of Munirka, she also accused them of being related to an accused in a rape case involving a minor girl.More details on the community members' meeting with the Delhi Police are awaited.
