Delhi rape: Home Secy promises more police patrolling and fast-track courts

As the rage spread  through India's national capital  as students, activists and concerned citizens gathered at India Gate and Raisina Hill to protest the  gangrape of a 23-year-old paramedical student in a moving bus , the government today assured that Delhi would now be a safer place with improved policing and fast-track courts .Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Union Home Secretary RK Singh assured that the policing in the national capital would be stepped up and made better  and fast-track courts will be set up to deal with such cases.[caption id="attachment_566347" align="alignleft" width="380"] n Delhi, protests are being held at India gate, outside Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit's residence and Police Headquarters demanding speedy justice to the rape victim. Image couresy:ibnlive[/caption]"The kind of policing we will have, we will ensure that everyone, men or women, can move freely in any part of Delhi in both day and night," he said.The Home Secretary, while assuring full security to all Delhi residents, said that it will be unfair to compare the state’s policing system with that of other countries. “We will make Delhi a safer place,” he added.He also promised a total crackdown on the anti-social elements roaming freely in the city.Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar, who addressed mediapersons alongwith the Union Home Secretary, said that the patrolling in the city had already been intensified. "We have been going for plain cloth patrolling...now we have intensified the patrolling," said the police chief.Both Singh and Kumar assured that the transport system in the city would also be made better with installation of GPS in buses and autos.The announcement from the police came after the Delhi High Court stepped in the matter and slammed it for its shoddy probe into the case. Singh further told the reporters, “The chargesheet will be filed in the case soon. We will ask the court for a day-to-day hearing.
