Birju Salla, who caused flight hijack scare, becomes first person to be placed under 'No-Fly' list

Mumbai-based Gujarati jeweller Birju Salla, who created a false hijack scare on Mumbai-Delhi Jet Airways flight on Monday,  has become the first person in the country to be put on the 'No-Fly' list, CNN-News18 reported .Birju allegedly placed a note stating that there were 12 hijackers and a bomb in the cargo area. The note, which was printed in Urdu and English, asked that the plane be flown straight to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). It ended with the words, "Allah is Great". After the note was discovered, the flight was diverted to the airport in Ahmedabad.Following the incident, Union civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju put Birju on 'No-Fly' list.According to the new guidelines issued by the Ministry of Civil Aviation in September,  anyone who indulges in life-threatening behaviour, verbal or physical unruly behaviour, while on board an aircraft – even if the aircraft is still on ground – could find himself/ herself foul of the new law.[caption id="attachment_3145756" align="alignleft" width="380"] Representational image. Reuters[/caption]Salla had also done such a mischief in the past with the airline out of some grudge, a police official said."This is the second time when Salla did such a mischief with Jet Airways. A few months ago, he tried to harass the airline using some other trick. It seems that Salla has some grudge against the airline," he said.Earlier, Salla had created a ruckus over a cockroach he allegedly found in his food.“The fact that the insect wasn’t cooked made the crew suspect that it may have been planted. The matter, however, was resolved with minimal fuss,” a senior government official was quoted by Hindustan Times on the condition of anonymity.The airline, however, had let him go after taking an assurance that he would not repeat the offence.With inputs from agencies
