Bengaluru New Year's mob attack: Women groped and molested; no cases filed

News18[/caption]As 2016 came to a close and Bengalureans decided to ring in the new year on Saturday night at MG Road and Brigade Road, mobs of unruly men molested women, says a report in the Bangalore Mirror.MG Road and Brigade Road is where thousands of Bengalureans go on New Year's Eve to celebrate — vehicles are banned on the roads for this purpose and the Bengaluru city police took strict measures to ensure that such untoward incidents do not occur. According to Bangalore Mirror, 1,500 policemen had been deployed.But, closer to midnight "hooligans in the garb of revellers started pawing, molesting and passing lewd remarks on women on the streets, forcing some of them to literally take off their stilettoes and run for help," said the report.Chaitali Wasnik took to the social media platform, Facebook and recounted how a man tried to grope her breasts while she was returning home, adding that no cops came to her rescue.The Financial Express said that NS Megharikh, the city's former police commissioner claimed that the entire city's police force was deployed on the streets, including reserve battalions. A working professional quoted by Bangalore Mirror said that even when he asked cops to help a woman being accosted by a group of people, the cops only chased them and went back to their spots soon after. The cops have not filed a single case saying that there were no complainants despite numerous eyewitness accounts.
