Assam-Nagaland border violence toll rises to four

Guwahati: With the recovery of two more bodies from the disturbed Uriamghat area of Assam this morning, the death toll in firing and arson along the Assam-Nagaland border by alleged miscreants from the neighbouring state has risen to four. With these, the total number of dead has increased to four in the violence by miscreants from Nagaland," Rout told PTI.The two bodies have been identified as that of Joca Tirkey and Jiten Khalko, he said. The other two bodies, which were found in the first two days of violence that started on Tuesday, were of Fasai Karmakar and Africa Toppo. Around 200 houses of around 1,000 people were set on fire by the miscreants, he said. In total, over 10,000 people have left their homes and are living in 10 relief camps opened in the area, Rout said. Seven villages, including Chetiagaon, Romanbasti, Chainpur, Ratanpur, Kamphur and Sukhanjan falling under Sector B of the Assam-Nagaland border, have been affected and CRPF has set up camps in all the seven villages besides one Assam Police company is also working under the Central force. The administration has opened a central control room, comprising Assam Police, Nagaland Police and CRPF, he said.PTI
