Asian College of Journalism to partner Bloomberg in launching financial journalism course

The Asian College of Journalism (ACJ) in Chennai will offer students a financial journalism programme, that will teach students the latest skills in writing, editing, digital and multimedia reporting, ethics, investigative reporting, fundamentals of finance and government reporting. Getty Images[/caption]'ACJ-Bloomberg Postgraduate Program', the course will begin in July, and the college has started accepting applications for the same. "There is no business and financial reporting programme in India and it is a data driven field. So, there was an opportunity for us to do something," Parry Ravindranathan, managing director, international, Bloomberg Media Group, was quoted as saying in the report.The report added that Bloomberg has been involved with putting the curriculum together, and will also make available 12 of its renowned terminals for the students to access. This apart, the media behemoth will also bring in experts to work as guest faculty on the course."The Bloomberg terminals are a luxury for the students. Bloomberg will bring in experts for students; Mint is delivering some modules. The Hindu Business Line and several other papers are supporting the programme," Sashi Kumar, chairman, ACJ, was quoted as saying.He also added that unlike its current plain vanilla journalism course, the ACJ-Bloomberg one has the potential to attract mid-career journalists as well, who may want to shift to financial writing.
