AK Ganguly has the right to remain in office: Altamas Kabir

Kolkata: Supporting Justice (retd) AK Ganguly, accused of sexually harassing an intern, former Chief Justice of India Altamas Kabir on Friday said he had the right of not stepping down as chairman of the West Bengal Human Rights Commission.[caption id="attachment_1321559" align="alignleft" width="380"] File photo of AK Ganguly.[/caption]"He has the right to do so. I will not say anything more," Kabir told reporters in Kolkata when asked about Ganguly's refusal to resign as WBHRC chief.The former CJI refused to elaborate on the matter saying it would not be appropriate on his part to comment further as the matter would now go to the Supreme Court after the union cabinet cleared the demand for Presidential reference.The Union cabinet had on Thursday approved a proposal of the Home Ministry on sending a presidential reference to the Supreme Court for a probe into allegation of sexual harassment of a female law intern in December last year against him.Asked whether the victim should file an FIR, he said, "That is what everybody is saying."PTI
