TRAI moves court against Loop Mobiles on number portability

New Delhi:The Telecom Regulatory Authorityof India (TRAI) has moved a Delhi court seeking prosecution of LoopMobiles (India) Ltd for rejecting its subscribers' requests toswitch over to another service providers in violation of TRAIregulations.

The TRAI has sought Chief Metropolitan Magistrate VinodYadav's direction to summon and prosecute Loop Mobiles, itsManaging Director Sandip Basu and Chief Regulatory OfficerHarish Kapoor for rejecting subscribers' requests for numberportability.

It alleged Loop Mobiles rejected some requests fornumber portability in Mumbai circle as it was "not inconsonance with the provisions of the Telecom Mobile NumberPortability Regulations".

"Regulation 12 (Telecom Portability Regulations) does notprovide for rejection of porting requests on ground of Act ofGod and rejection under the category are not in consonancewith the provisions of the said regulation," TRAI said in itscomplaint.

The telecom regulator said after it launched mobilenumber portability in January 2011, it directed all serviceproviders including Loop to furnish compliance of variousprovisions of the Telecom Portability Regulations.

It said to ascertain correctness of compliance given byLoop, TRAI obtained data pertaining to rejections of portingrequests by the company in Mumbai circle and observed that ithad rejected a number of such requests under the category of"act of God" and certain on ground of "contractualobligations" and "outstanding payment dues".
