Telgi moves Delhi HC for reduction of local court's sentence

[caption id="attachment_133655" align="alignleft" width="380" caption="Telgi, lodged in a Bangalore prison since April 2004 also sought bail on medical grounds. Reuters"][/caption]New Delhi: The multi-crore rupee fake stamp paper racket kingpin Abdul Karim Telgi today moved the Delhi High Court seeking reduction of his seven-year-jail term awarded by a Delhi Court following his conviction in three cases related to printing and sale of counterfeit security instruments here.Telgi, lodged in a Bangalore prison since April 2004 and serving varying jail terms that entailed his convictions by various courts, including those of Mumbai and Pune for his role in printing and circulating fake stamp papers, in his pleas also sought bail on medical grounds.He challenged the 2009 order of the lower court here, which imposed a total fine of Rs 1.5 crore in the three cases. On Telgi's pleas, Justice ML Mehta issued a notice to CBI, seeking its reply by 13 January next year.Telgi filed three separate appeals, seeking merely reduction of his concurrent seven years' jail term in three cases, but without challenging his conviction as he himself had pleaded guilty before the magisterial court.PTI
