Significant improvement in services in India: RIM

New Delhi:After three days of disruptions,BlackBerry services have been restored in India today, thesmartphone maker Research In Motion said while ruling out thepossibility of hacking for the outages across the world.

A top official of BlackBerry maker Research In Motion(RIM) said traffic is flowing and there has been "significantimprovement" in all services in India.Responding to a query on whether BlackBerry services havebeen fully restored in India, RIM's Senior Vice-President andManaging Director Patrick Spence replied in the affirmative."Yes. Services have been restored. There may be afew backlogs in messaging and it is being restored," he saidon a conference call.

Underlining that India is a "an important" market, hesaid RIM is working "24x7" to resolve the problem.India has around one million BlackBerry users.RIM Co-founder Mike Lazaridis apologised for the servicedisruptions worldwide. "I apologise for the services outagesthis week... It is too soon to say the issue has fullyresolved."We are approaching normal service levels in Europe,Middle East, India and Africa," he said in a video messageposted on the company website.

The company would leave no stone unturned to understandhow the failure happened. It will also ensure that suchinstances would not happen in the future, Spence noted.When asked about the possibility of hacking or any other

external attempts as the reason for the outages, Spencesaid, "At this point of time, we did look at that question and... it is not related to anything to do with securityperspective."
