No AIFF support, South United opt out of I-League 2nd division

It just keeps getting worse for the All India Football Federation (AIFF).Weeks after winning promotion to the second division of the I-League, the I-League 2, Indian club South United have now withdrawn from the league after the AIFF decided to stop financially supporting clubs lower than the first division.A Goal.com report quoted CEO of the club Lokknath R Char as saying: "I want to make it clear that South United is not shutting down. This is a conscious call on the use of funds. The choice was whether to use the money to play in I-League, where we get little or no contribution from football’s godfathers, or to use it to get more and more kids playing."

He also said that the decision was taken due to a 'lack of support' from the AIFF.Earlier in the week, Firstpost reported how the AIFF does not pay any prize money to winners of the I-League 2 — revealing the financial difficulties clubs face in Indian football.However, South United will continue to play in the Bangalore Super Division and still harbour a hope to one day come back to the I-League.Click here to read the full Goal.com report.
