Koodankulam issue cannot be solved by state alone: Jaya

Chennai: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today said she was yet to receive the letter from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking her support for the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project but insisted the state alone cannot resolve the issue.Speaking to reporters here, she claimed no letter had been received from the prime minister and said she had only come to know about it through media reports. "However, the issue is not something which can be resolved by the state alone," she said.[caption id="attachment_107305" align="alignleft" width="380" caption="Jayalalithaa had recently put the onus on the Centre for the project's fate saying it should first allay the fear of the people before proceeding with it. Reuters"][/caption]Singh had written to Jayalalithaa yesterday, saying stoppage of the Koodankulam power project, an Indo-Russian joint venture which has run into rough weather following opposition from locals, will affect the state's industrialdevelopment.Jayalalithaa had recently put the onus on the Centre for the project's fate saying it should first allay the fear of the people before proceeding with it. In a campaign meeting for civic polls at Tuticorin today, she said her government would respect the people's sentiments.Responding to the attack on Team Anna member Prashant Bhushan in Delhi, she described it as "most condemnable", saying there were no place for such attacks.PTI
