Kalam, Dhoni urge youth to register as voters

New Delhi: Former President A P J Abdul Kalam and Team India captain MS Dhoni will urge the youth to get registered as voters. "Messages from youth icons APJ Abdul Kalam and MS Dhoni have been recorded asking the voters to be registered," an Election Commission release said.[caption id="attachment_192839" align="alignleft" width="380" caption="Calling the youth. Image courtesy PIB"][/caption]Kalam will distribute Electors' Photo Identity Cards to 20 newly eligible and enrolled voters of Delhi to mark the second National Voters' Day on Wednesday.National Voters' Day is observed to commemorate the foundation day of the Election Commission of India. The objective behind National Voters' Day is to increase enrollment of voters, especially newly eligible ones, by using this occasion to make universal adult enrollment a reality, the EC release said.Approximately 3.83 crore new registrations have been done throughout the country, of which 1.11 crore are in the age group 18-19 years as on 1 January 2012. it said. Kalam will also give away National Awards to district electoral officers and superintendent police for adopting "Best Electoral Practices" and special awards to other officers for doing exemplary work during polls.
