India offers technological support to Turkmenistan

New Delhi: The government today assured Turkmenistan of all cooperation in the field of information and communications technology for mutual benefit. In his key note address at the inaugural session of TurkmenTEL 2012 at the Ashgabat (Turkmenistan capital) on Tuesday, Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal emphasised the need for regional cooperation to uplift the social and economic status of the people in the region, according to an official release.[caption id="attachment_460428" align="alignleft" width="380"] Telecom and information technology minister, Kapil Sibal. Image courtesy PIB[/caption]"Sibal shared the success story of Indian telecom sector and gave an overview of the spectrum of policy initiatives in India's National Telecom Policy 2012," the release said. The minister said India could extend cooperation to Turkmenistan in the fields of e-health, e-education and e-governance services.Turkmenistan can be connected to Indian universities through National Knowledge Network and students sitting in Turkmenistan can directly be part of academic sessions in various disciplines in India, the statement added.Sibal also invited the Turkmenistan minister and his delegation to participate in India Telecom 2012 in Delhi, from 13-15 December.During his visit to this Central Asian country, he is also scheduled to meet key ministers of education & IT, and transport and communications.
