Chavan hits back at critics for non-performance allegations

New Delhi: Under attack over alleged non-performance, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan today sought to dismiss suggestions that he was delaying taking decisions and accused certain individuals of targetinghim for his "failure" to oblige them.Sources said Chavan, on his first visit to Delhi after the Congress high command asked him to buck up, insisted there were several constraints in taking quick decisions in the present situation.[caption id="attachment_277847" align="alignleft" width="380" caption="AFP Photo"][/caption]He said growing awareness of RTI coupled with judicial activism and media expose of a number of scams has led to "demoralisation" of the bureaucracy which is reluctant to take decisions.The sources said Chavan was also dimissive of personal attacks on him. They said the chief minister has taken decisions that have a state-wide impact and not those that would have "benefited certain individuals".They cited forward movement on Dharavi resettlement issue, Mihan cargo hub projects and the decision to reserve 20 percent government flats for economically weaker sections as cases to buttress the point.A section in Congress feels that Chavan cannot lead the party in the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state scheduled for 2014.PTI
