Air passenger traffic may double in 2017-18: Singh

New Delhi: The government today said it expected that air passenger traffic would witness an increase from over 143 million passengers in the year 2010-11 to over 293.48 million in 2017-18.[caption id="attachment_252760" align="alignleft" width="380" caption="India's passenger air traffic will double in five years. "It is estimated that the passenger traffic will increase from 143.43 million in 2010-11 to 293.48 million in 2017-18," Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.

"As per the projections of the 12th Five Year Plan, an investment of Rs 67,500 crore had been envisaged for development of airport infrastructure at existing airports as well as the development of new Greenfield airports," Singh said.

He said Rs 50,000 crore out of this investment is expected to come from the private sector.
