SP leads in UP, BSP's loss is Congress, BJP gain: Star News

An exit poll by Star News says the Samajwadi Party is expected to make gains in the Uttar Pradesh polls but will need to find a partner if it wants to come to power in the state.

According to the poll, the Samajwadi Party is expected to make significant progress from the last polls to get to 160 seats from 97.The channel's poll says that the incumbent BSP is expected to see a dramatic fall in fortunes to 86 seats. The BSP won 203 seats in the last polls.According to the channel the beneficiaries of the BSP's loss are expected to be the Congress and the BJP.The Congress and its ally Rashtriya Lok Dal,  for whom Rahul Gandhi campaigned extensively, is expected to double its tally in the UP assembly by netting 70 seats from 32.The BJP is also expected to eat into the BSP's share of seats by getting to 80 seats up from 51 seats in 2007. In a survey conducted by CNN-IBN, 38 percent people want Mulayam as the UP Chief Minister followed by Mayawati with 22 percent.
