Sex with under-aged prostitute lands ex-UBS banker in prison

A married Swiss ex-banker was sentenced to more than four months in jail for having sex with an under-aged Singaporean prostitute, the AFP reported today.

Juerg Buergin, a married 41-year-old former executive with banking giant UBS, had intercourse with the 17-year-old on two occasions at five star hotels in 2010 and 2011. However, at the start of his trial in March he had said he was tricked into thinking the girl was older.

"The case caused an uproar last year in Singapore after Buergin and 50 other men, including Singaporean business executives, a former school principal, a navy captain and a police superintendent, were accused of paying for sex with the girl," the AFP report said.

He was the first of the 51 men in the online vice-ring cases to claim trial - a fact which the district judge said had made a "significant difference" in his case. So far, 18 men had been dealt with and, on average, each man was jailed for about 12 weeks.
