Mumbai tops late night orders for food, Delhi comes close second

Mumbai tops the largest night order volumes in the country with 40 per cent of late night orders coming in between 1 am and 2 am, indicating that it is, indeed, the city that never sleeps. Stating this in a press release, Zomato, a restaurant discovery and food ordering app, the night kitchen market has since changed course, and the order volume has seen a 25 per cent growth over the past three months.[caption id="attachment_2574066" align="alignleft" width="380"] Logo[/caption]In comparison, 30 per cent of late night orders in Delhi were between 1 am and 2 am. Changing customer attitudes, busy schedules, and an unprecedented change in lifestyles are a major reason for the success of late night delivery services in India, according to Zomato.On an average, Indians are willing to spend an average of Rs. 600 on a late-night delivery order. Delhi alone sees users spending an average of Rs. 800 per order, indicating that Delhi is willing to spend a lot more on late-night orders as compared to Mumbai and Bengaluru.In the last quarter, Delhi and Bengaluru saw a 20 per cent increase in the number of late-night delivery orders, with Mumbai leading at 30 per cent.“Restaurateurs now see the potential of the late-night order market, and over the past couple of years there have been a number of instances of standalone restaurants also starting base kitchens to serve late into the night,” said Pankaj Chaddah, Co-Founder, Zomato.“The late night delivery space is still growing, and while reach and scaling up our business has been a big concern,” said Ashwin Venkatraman, Co-Founder of Captain Grub.Zomato lists 75,000 restaurants on its platform across 37 cities in India. Foodies can use Zomato to order food online from 12,500 of these restaurants across 10 major cities. Zomato recently introduced an in-app chat support feature, enabling customers to chat with the team at Zomato for any order-related queries.
