Hero MotoCorp's sales cross one million mark

New Delhi: Hero MotoCorp's retail sales crossed the one million mark in October and November, giving credence to the company's claims that its flagship Splendor bike has not suffered after the Honda brand name was removed.

The company retailed (retailers sold to customers) 11 lakh two wheelers in October and November while its dispatches (two wheeler sent from factory to dealers) in these two months were about 10.3 lakh.

But if one were to look at November alone, the company's dispatches fell to 502,305 units against 536,772 units in the same month last year.

Senior VP (Marketing & Sales) Anil Dua said in a statement that

this year, the November dispatch is lower than last year on account of the holidays due to Diwali, while there were no such holidays in the November of 2011, the festive period being in October last year. But the Splendor brand alone saw dispatches of 2 lakh units in November. Splendor is the world's largest selling bike and earlier this year, its dispatches were severely curtailed by the company to manage inventory.

Dua said the company hopes to maintain its record of selling over 5 lakh two wheelers each month.

Not just Hero, festivities in November have also helped TVS Motor Company, which saw retail sales grow at 19 percent year-on-year to 185,000 two wheelers. The company said robust retail sales have resulted in significant reduction of stocks at the dealer level.

During the month of November 2012, the company's total sales stood at 171,837 units against 175,535 units registered in November 2011.
