Despite Dreamliner nightmare, Air India says no safety concerns

Despite Air India's continuing mishaps with Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the national carrier has said that there are no safety concerns as the Boeing team is currently assessing the situation, reported CNBC-TV18.

On Monday,an Air India Dreamliner flight enroute to New Delhi developed a fault in its braking system following which it had to make a priority landing at Indira Gandhi International airport. The same day, an Air India Delhi-Melbourne Sydney flight also developed cracks while landing at Melbourne.

Air India's Dreamliners have had a string of operating snags. In October a body panel fell off the aircraft while it was about to land in Bangalore.

According to a report in the Business Standard, travel agencies as well as air passengers' association have expressed concerns over the recurring technical glitches.

""We are very concerned. The aircraft (Dreamliner) had been grounded worldwide in January (after earlier operational glitches) and now problems are surfacing recurrently. These may be termed as teething problems, but with no decisive action being taken, who will be held accountable if an unfortunate incident takes place?"D Sudhakara Reddy, president, Air Passengers Association of India, was quoted as saying by BS.

However, terming these as 'teething issues, Air India has said there is no question of going back on Dreamliner orders, according to a CNBC-TV18 report.

Air India's utlisation of Dreamliner is the highest at 12 hours per day as against eight hours by other airlines, CNBC-TV18 reported.
