Zenith and Symantec today announced an OEM agreement, which enables Zenith to provide its customers with the latest version of Norton Internet Security 2007, with a one year license.

Before this agreement, Norton Internet Security was bundled with PC’s, however, the license lasted only for one, two or three months (i.e 30, 60 or 90 days). This agreement provides users with a license that lasts for one year.

"Zenith simply wants users to have a safe computing experience," said Raj Saraf, MD and Chairman, Zenith Computers. The security landscape in India is changing very rapidly. According to Michael Yell, director, Consumer/OEM Channels, Asia Pacific and Japan "PC penetration in India has seen 32% growth, from 4.6 million to 5.04 million computers (Desktops and Notebooks). This penetration has also led to an increase in malicious attacks. According to our research, Mumbai and Delhi are currently the most targeted for attacks via bot networks."

Symantec’s reports also say that there has been an 81% increase in phishing over the past 6 months. It’s all these contributing factors that give rise to the current scenario today, a scenario where everyone needs security. Consumers need to become aware of the need of security, since enterprises more or less have always faced these kinds of issues, and are somewhat prepared.

Zenith believes that its offering, which will be available after 10 days, will give consumers some sense of peace of mind, considering that they are already protected once they buy the PC. This agreement is also part of Zenith and Symantec’s security awareness initiative.

Previous offerings from Zenith were priced between Rs 12500 and Rs 13000, shipped with anti-virus support, and the license lasted only for a few weeks. The new offerings offer customers a security suite, with a one year license, for the same price.
