Half Of Country's Mobile Phone Users Have No Security Solutions: Report

Fifty percent of the mobile phone users in India do not use mobile security solutions, making them vulnerable to cyber-crime, a recent study by cyber security firm Symantec has found.

Fifty percent of the mobile phone users in India do not use mobile security solutions, making them vulnerable to cyber-crime, a recent study by cyber security firm Symantec has found.

"Forty-four percent of the mobile users received text messages from someone they did not know, requesting that they click on an embedded link or dial an unknown number to retrieve a voicemail," the report said.

In India, the report from Symantec said, about 70 percent of adults use mobile devices to access internet.

"Today all these malwares, spywares and trojans are hitting each one of us with the perspective of getting monetary benefit," Ritesh Chopra, Country Sales Manager (India and SAARC) of Symantec Software Solutions, said.

Chopra said that incidents of personal information being accessed by making use of spywares were not uncommon, and there was need for greater awareness among the masses.
