Centre To Introduce Programme For IT Research

The government will hold discussions with Nasscom and the IITs and then launch the programme.

The centre would introduce a new programme to encourage more students to take up research on Information Technology and computer science, a senior official of the department of Science and Technology (DST) said.

"To increase the number of students opting to study PhDs in computer science and IT, the government is planning to embark on a new programme shortly," said Dr V Rao Aiyagari, advisor and head, Seismicity Programme, Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC).

"We need to get more number of faculties and students opting to do research in IT and computer science," he said.

"We don't know when the programme would come but we would hold discussions with them (Nasscom and IITs) and after that the programme may be launched," he said.

Aiyagiri was recently in Chennai to announce the DST's collaboration with Microsoft Research India for the launch of India Digital Heritage Project aimed to develop tools and techniques to present and preserve the culture and arts of the country through different forms of media. (PTI)
