BT To Provide IANS To EU

BT has entered into an inter-institutional framework deal with the European Commission’s Directorate General Information Technology (DIGIT), for a minimum term of four years that could extend up to eight years.

BT will supply, implement and manage full range of Internet access and associated services (INAS) for DIGIT. These services include Internet access from at least 17 sites in Europe, wi-fi access, anti-spam filtering, protection against denial of service attacks, etc.

In addition to the European Commission, BT will provide Internet services to more than ten European Union institutions and organisations.

According to Michel De Coster, CEO, BT Benelux, "INAS follows on another inter-institutional framework contract with a budget of more than 160 million euro, signed at the end of 2004 with DIGIT, relating to the supply of managed communication services over IP, on a worldwide scale."
