88% of Indian firms have implemented IoT solutions: Survey

Indian firms show a particularly high rate of adoption, with more than 88 percent expected to have implemented IOT solutions with another expected to deploy with in a year.

A vast majority of decision makers understand and are in the process of deploying the Internet of Things (IoT) as part of their business strategy, according to a joint study by Zebra Technologies and Forrester Consulting. The report surveyed IT and business decision makers in nearly 600 global firms in the retail, consumer products, manufacturing, transportation, government, oil/gas, healthcare, and hospitality industries.

According to the report, Indian firms show a particularly high rate of adoption, with more than 88 percent expected to have implemented IOT solutions with another expected to deploy with in a year.

"New cities, buildings, and infrastructure in many Asia Pacific countries have enabled this strong adoption rate."

India ranked security sensors location tracking as the most important element of IOT solutions, followed by grid sensors and condition sensors.

Indian firms surveyed listed implementation complexity, IT governance, integration challenges, total cost concerns, and private and security concerns as the top five hurdles expected when implementing IOT solutions.

Firms in Asia Pacific readily recognise the transformational role of IoT solutions. Over 85 percent of surveyed firms in Asia Pacific believe that IoT solutions will be the most strategic technology initiative for their organisation in a decade, higher than the global average of 80 percent.

APAC firms showed much higher IOT deployment momentum, with over 70 percent having deployed or are in the process of deploying an IOT solution, compared to the global average of 65 percent.
