Behura's bail inspires A Raja to move court as well

Former telecom minister A Raja moved his bail application in a special CBI court on Wednesday after the Supreme Court granted bail to ex-telecom secretary Siddharth Behura.

A Raja, accused in the 2G spectrum scam, has been behind bars for 15 months now.

The Supreme Court today gave bail to former Telecom Secretary Siddharth Behura, arrested last year on 2 February for his alleged role in the 2G case. The court upheld the bail granted to former Telecom Minister A Raja's ex-Private Secretary R K Chandolia by the trial court.

With the imminent release of Behura after the grant of bail to him, former Telecom Minister A Raja is now the only accused left in jail in the 2G case as all others, including DMK MP Kanimozhi, have been given bail.

Raja, in his bail application, has requested court to release him on the ground of parity. "Except me, all the other accused have been released on bail," Raja said before special Judge OP Saini.

The bench granted bail to Behura stipulating that he would furnish a personal bond of Rs 10 lakh and surety of Rs 5 lakh.

Behura and Chandolia were arrested by CBI along with A Raja on 2 February, 2011.
