Bangalore: Narrow escape for passengers as Indigo plane veers off runway

Passengers and crew in an Indigo flight from Delhi to Bangalore had a narrow escape when the Airbus A 320 veered off the runway during landing on Thursday night.

Passengers and crew in an Indigo flight from Delhi to Bangalorehad a narrow escape when the Airbus A 320 veered off the runway during the landing on Thursday night.

According to an Indigo press statement, the flight 6E-125 while landing on runway 27 at the Bengalore airport at 8:10 pm, landed to the right of the center line due the heavy rains

The aircraft veered to the right, struck 5 runway edge lights resulting in deflation of the right main tyres. Fortunately the aircraft was controlled and was taxied off the runway and stopped.

According to a report inThe Hindu,"The incident occurred during the peak time for international arrivals." Nearly sixteen domestic flights that were supposed to arrive in Bangalore were diverted to Chennai. The airport was shut for nearly two-to-three hours.

Indigo said that all 110 passengers and six crew on board were safe with no injuries.Indigo has grounded the aircraft for maintenance work and said that the matter has been reported to the DGCA. The safety department of IndiGo and DGCA will inquire further into the incident.
