Rail budget 2014: Reservation system, e-ticketing system will be revamped

In his maiden Railway Budget 2014, Railways Minister D V Sadananda Gowda has announced a revamp of the current ticketing system. He has also announced some new Internet facilities for users on stations and trains.According to the minister, the present reservation system will be revamped and e-ticketing facility will be revamped. He said that customers will be able to book e-ticket via mobiles, post offices as well soon. "Reservation system will be revamped and ticket-booking through mobile phones and post offices popularised," he said.He added that the e-ticketing service would be improved and would be able to take 7200 tickets per minutes as against current capacity of 2000 tickets. It will allow 120,000 simultaneous users to book tickets.Hopefully this should reduce the amount of time users have to spend on IRCTC in trying to book just one ticket, especially in peak hours.[caption id="attachment_1608791" align="alignleft" width="380"]

Representational Image. AP[/caption]Gowda also announced that all A1 and A category stations would get WiFi facility as would some trains. WiFi on trains was first announced by former railways minister in the UPA 2 Pawan Kumar Bansal in 2013.He also said that mobile navigation system would be allowed on some stations. Users would also be sent messages by the railways informing them of their time of departure, arrival, etc on their mobiles. He also added that the Indian Railways is expanding the scope of online booking for people to book a Train, book a Coach, book a Berth and book a Seat in Chair Car.
