As the year comes to an end, we take a look at the best ads of 2013.This year will be remembered for commercials that broke duration records, formats and stereotypes, some with magical and emotional tales; some not so good and some that have stood out for sheer brilliance.

We asked 17 creative heads to nominate five ads from outside their own agencies that they thought were the best of the year. They are: Agnello Dias (TapRoot India), Santosh Padhi (TapRoot India), Kartik Iyer (Happy Creative Services), Sonal Dabral (DDB MudraGroup), Josy Paul (BBDO India), Swati Bhattacharya (JWT India), Tista Sen (JWT India), Senthil Kumar (JWT India), Abhijit Avasthi (Ogilvy India), Rajiv Rao (Ogilvy India), Bobby Pawar (Publicis India), Amit Akali (Grey India), Malvika Mehra (Grey India), KV Sridhar (Leo Burnett), Arun Iyer (Lowe Lintas), Sajan Raj Kurup (Creativeland Asia), Ashish Khazanchi (Enormous).

Anant Rangaswami was, until recently, the editor of Campaign India magazine, of which Anant was also the founding editor. Campaign India is now arguably India's most respected publication in the advertising and media space. Anant has over 20 years experience in media and advertising. He began in Madras, for STAR TV, moving on as Regional Manager, South for Sony’s SET and finally as Chief Manager at BCCL’s Times Television and Times FM. He then moved to advertising, rising to the post of Associate Vice President at TBWA India. Anant then made the leap into journalism, taking over as editor of what is now Campaign India's competitive publication, Impact. Anant teaches regularly and is a prolific blogger and author of Watching from the sidelines.
