I've never been so depressed about Indian cricket

Having abandoned both hope and the TV, I switch on to cricinfo and the running score. In following Indian cricket with entire devotion and passion for more than 50 years, I have never been so depressed.I have no words left; I am broken-hearted — speechless — my heart is shattered in so many pieces that I have given up trying to collect them.Pathetic, our display, let me leave it at that. After a T20 and five one-dayers, something called the Champions Trophy begins on September 23. Between the top T20 clubs of the world — not countries, but clubs — and this rubbish goes on for 17 days and nights — and for this we cannot blame the BCCI, but the ICC, who should know better but, of course, do not. Our players are already crying out for rest, as they are being thrashed by England. Will they avoid the Champions Trophy in favour of rest? Our captain, who is complaining the most, will lead his club in the nonsense... will he have the guts to say he is too tired to play? Will he? No, only if it involves playing for India.Meanwhile, as the Champions Trophy ends, a one-day series at home against England begins – from the 8–29 of October, five matches, let us see who actually plays in those matches; let us see...Then, for one and a half months, there appears to be no cricket for India before we embark on a tour of Australia, which begins on December 18, with one warm-up three-day match before four consecutive Tests — sounds familiar? Which means, in a nutshell, that our Test team will be facing the Aussies, hungry for revenge, on December 26, having not played a Test for almost four months, and nothing more than a one-dayer for almost seven and in those one-dayers, many of our top players will not have played — disaster again — I will say nothing further...I have a feeling that Dravid and Laxman may play Ranji trophy in the gap — will any other of our stars do so? Let us see.And then I look back, as England stands at 305/2 — the last time we lost the first two Tests of a series in England was in ’74, when we went on to lose all three, and Wadekar lost his glorious captaincy as a result. Any portents? He was, before the series, nothing more than India's most successful captain ever, with series wins over England (2), and the West Indies. Is our present captain listening?In all, we have played 16 Test series in England, this being the 16th. In those series, we have lost the first two Tests four times before this series — and in all four series, we lost the third Test, too. Portents again?319/2 — Tea on the second day...But hope, too — in '36, on our second tour of England, we lost the first Test, but then drew the second, scoring 390/5 in the second innings, with centuries by Merchant and Mushtaq Ali.Portents?And in '46 we drew the second Test, having lost the first, finishing at 150/9 –Portents?A true lover of India cricket just never gives...
