Royal Enfield unveils 650 cc parallel twin; expected to launch two motorcycles with new engine

The Royal Enfield bike with the 650 cc parallel twin engine is still in the pre-production stage and expected to be launched globally in April 2018.

Royal Enfield has unveiled a new 650 cc parallel twin engine at the Royal Enfield UK Technical Center at Bruntingthorpe in United Kingdom. The bike running on this engine is expected to be unveiled at the EICMA, Milan on 7 November at 20:30 IST. The video trailer of the official YouTube channel showing two bikes with a caption of 'One Heart. The company is expected to launch more than one model using the new engine. The 650 cc air-cooled engine comes with an oil cooler for additional engine thermal management.According to a report on Autocar the engine produces 47 HP at 7,000 rpm and a maximum torque figure of 52 Nm at 4,000 rpm. It has a four valve SOHC layout and 270 degree forged crank that according to the company produces a 'Rumble' sound as compared to the trademark 'thumping' sound produced by the Royal Enfield engines. One of the reasons behind it is the 270 degree firing order.Royal Enfield's new bike is expected to come with slip assist clutch, ABS and 6-speed transmission. According to the company the engine will be compliant with Euro 4 and BS4 statndards and will also be able to scale up to Euro 5 and BS6 if required.

According to the report, the Royal Enfield wanted their bikes to be aspiring but also affordable. The engine is also capable of getting the motorcycle to touch a maximum speed of 160 Kmph.
